Prayer Request from Sandra Dominique

Michael,

 

I hope you are in the best placenow, without the pain that has plagued you recently.

 

Please pass this request on to the many prayerful Warriors that so willingly pray for the needs of others.

 

My cousin Mazie, who lives in Louisiana has been diagnosed with Amyothrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease).  As many of you may know this is a progressive, fatal, neurodegenerative disease. She was diagnosed in December of last year and the degeneration is progressing at a pretty rapid rate.  She is unable to speak, she can still walk with assistance and of late she is choking quite a bit from her saliva.

 

At this time there is a financial dilemma and her sister is having a difficult time finding funds to help with in home care for her.  The State Medicade program has indicated that as long as she has her name attached to property that was virtually destroyed by Hurricane Katrina there is no financial help that can be provided. The ALS Association had been paying Home Care Providers until June 30th.  At that time they had to discontinue the help because of budgetary limitations.  The Association is in the process of establishing the current budget and as soon as this is complete, they will once again  pay for the Home Care Providers.

 

In the meantime the only help she has is her sister who is now on duty 24/7.  She has to get up at least 4 times a night with Mazie, causing her constant exhaustion due to lack of sleep.  An application has been sent to the State for financial help, they are anticipating a denial of the request, and are already preparing the appeal of the denial.  The ALS Association has assured them that they will appear with them at the time of the appeal to explain the condition and needs of this patient. Nancy, the current care giver is taking the patient along to the appeal so the decision makers will have to look into the eyes of the patient and make their decision.

 

I ask you for your prayers that the decision will be a favorable one. In the alternative, that the appeal will overturn the denial and Mazie will be allowed help for her needs.  Secondly, I ask for your prayers, to our loving and merciful Father, if it is His will, that there will be strength in the patient and a minimum of pain as the condition worsens.  Thirdly, I ask for your prayers for Nancy, the sister and care giver that she will have the strength, physically, emotionally, and spiritually to carry out the will of the Father.
