Prayer Request for Genevieve Sole, Rest In Peace

This is from our fellow St Agatha parishioner and friend Kelly Holscher, whose mother, Genevieve (Gen) Sole recently passed away. Please join us in prayer for the repose of her soul and for the peace, comfort and support of her family and loved ones, of whom she had many. Kelly has written a beautiful, inspiring remembrance of her mother and also included a photo.                    Genevieve Sole

Dear Prayer Warriors and Friends,

My mother, Genevieve Sole, passed away last month and it would mean a lot to me and my family if you would pray for the repose of her soul during this Christmas season.  My mom, Gen, was an incredible and complicated woman. She lived her life with purpose.  Her purpose was to raise her five children to be capable and caring adults.  Her life's work was in God's ministry.  After graduating from Anna Maria College in Massachusetts, she traveled to Alaska to work as an English teacher in Catholic mission schools.  She settled in Fairbanks, Alaska, married my dad, Jon Sole and raised five children.

For the past 20 years, Gen taught about The Tabernacle to congregations as far reaching as Guam, Alaska and her hometown of Seattle.  She was also a leader in the Restoring the Foundations ministry, where she helped others understand the roots of their shortcomings and how to seek God's healing and how to allow God to prosper in their lives.  She helped many couples restore their marriages from ruin, and helped grieving parents heal from the loss of a child.  Gen was at her best when she was caring for others. 

The gift she left behind is the hope her teachings and prayers have brought to many.  She taught me and my four siblings to lead with our hearts first.  To give to others, even when we think we have nothing to give.  My mom lived to serve the least of His children.  She didn't care if you were wealthy and could pay for her counseling, or if you were homeless, addicted and helpless.  She treated all with the same dignity and compassion.  Gen showed up wherever there was a need for prayer and for compassion.

She loved St. Agatha's…especially the choir.  Music was a big part of her life.  For 15 years she directed Sweet Adelines Choir in Alaska and one year their choir and barbershop quartet made it to the finals in national competition.  She was often a music director at the churches where she worked and loved to play piano during worship services.  She played with her heart and used to say that Jesus could minister to others through her hands on the keyboard.

Gen leaves behind five children, eleven grandchildren and a legacy of a true believer.  She will be dearly missed.

Almighty God, through the death of Your Son on the cross, You have overcome death for us. Through his burial and resurrection from the dead You have made the grave a holy place and restored us to eternal life. We pray for those who died believing in Jesus and are buried with him in the hope of rising again. God of the living and the dead, may those who faithfully believed in You on earth praise You forever in the joy of heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

 

Prayer of Solace
May Christ support us all the day long, till the shadows lengthen, and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over and our work is done. Then in his mercy may he give us a safe lodging, and holy rest and peace at the last.
